Video Case Study - Using green screens with 3D-modeled virtual environment (Q-SEE Training Video)

Our client approached us with the need to produce a sales team training video series, which would help retail sales staff to highlight the features and benefits of security camera systems for customers.
The client wanted the videos to feel as if the action was taking place at a retail store location that was somewhat futuristic. Instead of building an actual stage, we used 3D software to achieve the same effect.

PlanView wrote the script and story boards - and then used our large green screen studio to film the live action foreground video. We then designed and modeled a virtual stage in 3D software.
With a green screen "keying" processes we married the live action footage with the virtual 3D stage - and the scenes came to life. The 3D TV display in the background provided the perfect way to integrate supporting images and video overlays.

With a final script in hand, we interviewed and cast the actors for this piece.

To create the perception that our "sales staff" was meeting in a futuristic retail store, we first filmed the foreground live action at our studio in front of 0ur 30' green screen. The green is a high-contrast hue that our software can recognize and remove during editing, allowing us to place these characters in front of whatever back ground we design.

Our team designed and modeled our entire shooting "location" in 3D software. We integrated video screens in the background to use for additional content overlays

In all, we used 5 separate 3D environments to simulate a futuristic retail store environment as a backdrop for our sales training series of videos.

Final composition, editing and rendering
Editing, keying, audio, color correction, rendering

With the script written, story boards created, green scren video filmed and keyed, the 3D environment rendered, audio sweetened and all other content in place - we move to final editing.

This is where all the individual pieces come together to form a seamless, natural looking presentation. With editing complete, final color correction was performed to refine the overall look and feel.

With the production complete, we rendered the final video out to mulitple formats to be used in several delivery platforms - from web to DVD and even for live presentions on big screens at training events.
